Natural Substrate for Aquariums & Marine Tanks
Our Imported Coral Sand (500g pack) is a natural aragonite/coral-derived sand substrate that brings both aesthetic appeal and functional benefits to your aquarium setup. Ideal for marine, reef, brackish or African cichlid tanks — but also usable in freshwater systems where enhanced buffering is desired.
Key Features & Benefits
- Natural calcium carbonate base: Coral sand is rich in CaCO₃ which helps buffer pH and maintain stable water chemistry — especially useful in marine, reef and Rift-lake setups.
- Buffers pH & hardness (KH/GH): Helps stabilise water parameters, making it easier to maintain conditions for sensitive species or reef setups.
- Ideal substrate for beneficial bacteria: High surface area and porosity allow beneficial nitrifying & denitrifying bacteria to colonize, improving biological filtration over time.
- Natural appearance: Gives tanks a beach-sand or seabed look — enhances overall aesthetics especially for marine, reef or natural-style aquariums.
- Safe & chemical-free: No harmful dyes or additives — safe for fish, invertebrates, corals and plants when rinsed properly before use.
- Versatile use: Use as main substrate, under-substrate layer, or mixed with other sands for custom look & chemistry.
Usage Recommendations
- Rinse thoroughly before use to remove fine dust and prevent initial clouding.
- Use as a substrate layer in marine aquariums, reef tanks, African cichlid tanks — or freshwater tanks where a harder, buffered substrate is desired.
- Maintain moderate sand depth (as per tank species requirements) — too thick may lead to anaerobic zones; stir occasionally or install sand-sifting inhabitants if needed.
- Monitor water parameters (especially pH, KH, GH) after installation as coral sand may gradually affect hardness and pH buffering.
- Combine with other substrate types or live sand if you prefer softer water or lower KH for sensitive freshwater species.
What’s in the Box
- 1 × 500 g bag of Imported Coral Sand
- Usage & care guidelines (rinse before use, recommended substrate depth, compatibility notes)
Tip: For reef or marine aquariums, coral sand is ideal as both a substrate and a natural buffer — consider adding a shallow layer over live rock or mixing with finer sand for more natural aesthetics. For freshwater or planted tanks, combine with mineral-neutral substrate if you wish to maintain softer water parameters.
