Durable Multi-Purpose Filter Media
The Blue Matala Filter Sheet (50×50×4 cm) is a high-density, semi-rigid filtration mat designed to deliver both mechanical and biological filtration in freshwater aquariums, ponds, sumps, and canister filters. Its open, 3-D structure traps debris while offering excellent flow and ample surface area for beneficial bacteria colonization.
Features & Benefits
- High-density, fine weave: Efficiently traps smaller particles and suspended waste, improving water clarity and reducing load on downstream media.
- Mechanical + biological filtration: Captures debris while providing surface for nitrifying bacteria colonies, supporting stable nitrogen cycle.
- Reusable and easy to clean: Simply rinse or shake off debris during maintenance — the mat is rigid enough to withstand repeated cleaning without collapsing.
- Cut to size: Easy to trim with a knife or saw to perfectly fit custom filter boxes, sumps or canisters.
- Self-supporting & semi-buoyant: Mat holds its form and can be wedged in filter chambers without need for additional supports.
- Versatile application: Suitable for aquariums, planted tanks, paludariums, ponds — works well as first-stage mechanical filter, pre-filter, or main bio-media base.
Usage & Maintenance Tips
- Before first use, rinse the sheet thoroughly to remove any manufacturing dust/debris.
- Layer it as a first filtration stage (before finer media) to catch large debris and reduce load on filters down-stream.
- During routine maintenance, remove and gently rinse or shake off trapped waste — avoid harsh scrubbing or chemicals which may damage the mat or beneficial bacteria if biological filtration is established.
- If used in a sump or pond filter with high flow, wedge the mat securely so it does not shift or float.
- Inspect regularly for wear; although durable, over time the mat may degrade depending on intensity of use — replace if torn or excessively worn for optimal performance.
What’s in the Box
- 1 × Blue Matala Filter Sheet (50 cm × 50 cm × 4 cm thick)

Tip: For better filtration, you can combine this Blue Matala sheet with coarser (black/green mats) for pre-filtration and finer media or bio-media after — creating a layered filtration stack that handles large waste and supports beneficial bacteria simultaneously.
